Assessed accounting software

Alas, yes. For many I suspect this wouldn’t count as creative activity, however it was all a learning experience, and quite aside from learning what I want in an accounting programme (multiple currency support, budgeting, loan tracking, import of bank statements and export of proper accountant reports), I learnt a lot about website design for software and the sorts of first impressions that totally put me off. Very valuable experience for the super-secret project, I suspect!

Started inventing a scarf

My mother wants a scarf in this delicious cotton chenille yarn we bought her in Shropshire, but I’ve no pattern for it, so I’m taking my first tentative tottering steps into knitwear design by making it up as a go along. First attempt has drawn a lot on an existing pattern, but isn’t right, so I guess I’ll have to deviate more and be more adventurous. Fun!

Messed about with designs for other pages

Getting the hang of doing graduated washes with watercolour in my Moleskine at last – the first couple turned out pretty spotty, but it’s looking a bit better now. Working on the designs is really getting ideas flowing about what we can do and how things can be accomplished. Exciting!

Played around with homepage design for the super-secret project

Yes, it’s a web project. But then that would hardly surprise most people we know, I suspect. Design for this is entailing messing about with pens and watercolour and out of date masking fluid, which was rather nasty. Definitely needs replacing

Went and saw the Rodchenko/Popova constructivist exhibition

at Tate Modern as a little birthday treat to myself. Interesting. Now I want to do things with lines!

Read the first three chapters of “Designing for the Social Web”

Wow what a start! Looking like a great book, and very useful indeed for the super-secret project.

Messed about with collage and drawing

The horrors of this week all got too much for me, so after spending the morning finishing reading Murder on the Leviathan I decided to give myself the day off and spent the whole afternoon on the couch, listening to music and messing about in my journal – I completed 6 entire spreads! Plus added a bit to a few more. I don’t think I’ve ever done that much in a session ever before. Definitely feel better for a little random creative thought, although the headache is as bad as ever.

Made a first draft mockup

of my sister-in-common-law’s website which I was supposed to do about a year and a half ago. Feels good to have it underway at last.

Started in on my very first ER diagram

for my secret project. ER, for those who don’t know is “entity relationship”, so I am told, and is the first step in working out how to build the database I need. Exciting stuff!
