Posted the first of the promised longer articles

A little while back I promised I would write some longer articles on general creativity topics. Today I posted the first of these, entitled For the tweetless masses which is me (of course) talking about how supportive and encouraging I’ve found the music community on Twitter. Hope it’s helpful or interesting to someone. I’ll work out where I’m going to list these articles on this site sometime soon…

Expanding this blog!

I decided on the way home this evening, after contemplating and discarding a number of approaches (including a new, anonymous blog, which then raised the question of how do you promote an anonymous blog?) that I’m going to start creating the occasional longer post for this blog, addressing various topics to do with creativity, productivity and related topics. I’m hopefully going to post the first one on the weekend, but for now, I’ve written a letter to explain what on Earth I’m thinking

Thoughts on a website

Began to pull together some ideas (again) about how I want to tackle my new website. I’ve started this a couple of times but this feels meatier and more like it has a chance of making it to the coding phase.

Blogged about the process of writing the film score

It’s a bit rambly, of course, but I thought the community at NetNewMusic might find it interesting, plus I think it was good for me to talk about everything I’ve learned and thought about in the past week.

Playing round with Tumblr

I’ve heard a lot about Tumblr floating round on the internet and it sounded quite interesting as a place for accumulating all one’s assorted randomness in one place. I’m not sure what the potential audience for it would be. I suspect it might be more useful as a way for me to keep an eye on how dull I’m being, but chi.mp didn’t turn out to be particularly interesting or useful and I’m still not sure what I’m going to do with that. Tumblr seems to cover more ground and results in more of a native feel when combining streams from various services, so we’ll see. http://caitlinrowley.tumblr.com.

Fixed up the four things that were outstanding on this blog

  1. Category cloud needing to be limited to 10 categories (sorted thanks to this widget)
  2. Older posts/New posts nav at the bottom of each list page
  3. Set title to not be “Untitled Document”
  4. Made the date show up on multiple posts on the one day

Of course there are other things I want to go through and finesse, but this should be enough to show it to the world now at least. Yay! Only taken about 5 months!

Worked out how to get comment box onto the page

It’s been bugging me for days, but I seem to have worked it out. Now to customise it and make it so that the comments themselves are visible. Oh, and add in a home link and edit-post option. Then we’ll be ready!!!

Photoshopped the design & started coding up the new template

Yay! Played around in Photoshop with layer styles and custom shapes (creating my own) and I’m rather pleased with the result, oh yes I am *preen*. You’ll be seeing it online soon enough – hopefully by the end of the weekend!
