Got some reading done

When the quiet carriage finally turned quiet and the free WiFi was once again accessible, I made a planned attack on my read/review file. A few interesting articles in there – personal branding, getting people reading your content other than just viewing your page, alternative income streams. All sorts of stuff.

Had afternoon tea in Arbroath

After a productive morning’s work and my friend’s physiotherapy appointment, we drove out to Abroath where we had a spectacular afternoon tea at Sugar and Spice – a teapot full of tea, little sandwiches (I had chicken, my friend had ham), simply enormous and amazing scones with superb raspberry jam and cream, plus a small strawberry tart, a raspberry/white chocolate/caramel slice and two shortbread biscuits. We finished our scones and then declared ourselves stuffed to puss’s bow so we had to ask for a doggy bag for the cakes – they looked too good to waste!

And of course a walk was in order to deal with the aftermath, so after buying a few small treats from the sweetshop section for djelibeybi, we wandered along the seafront and up into Arbroath before buying some Arbroath smokies (smoked fish – mackeral maybe? very tasty) for tea and heading home. Lovely!

Got some good work done on the Secret Project

We’ve made a good start, working out how the content will be distributed throughout the project and I’ve been working on some ideas for the music. Feels good to be thinking creatively again.

Made a small start on the Secret Project

It doesn’t look like much, but it’s enough

Played tourist in Dundee

I went down to the Firth of Tay to see the Discovery, Scott of the Antarctic’s ship, which was amazingly awesome and interesting. They had an harmonium on board! I was most impressed. Freakin’ freezing outside though so I didn’t linger in inspecting the ship itself.

Had a revelation about working areas

Blogged here. In brief, there’s a reason why I feel a desperate need for light and space and hate looking at a wall. Thank God.

Went to a seminar on art as research in Dundee

I’m staying with a friend and collaborator of mine and she was going to this seminar, Who’s Afraid of Artistic Research?, on practice-based research, at Dundee Contemporary Arts, so I decided to tag along. Some interesting presentations, lots of notes taken. Brain is now some sort of soft, smelly cheese.

Travelled to Dundee!

At long last. I’ve been trying to visit my friend up here for a couple of years and at last I’ve done it. Yay! Now for a week of working on our mobile web art/music project. More yay!

More mitten-glove

Carrying on quite well really – I’ve now finished the thumb gusset and am powering up towards the fingers, which I’ll probably be doing tomorrow. I can’t believe how quickly it’s going!

Tested a bunch of cameras

Took an SD card up to Jessops and played around with some cameras. The Canon G10 is still the clear leader – the Nikon P90 has an amazing 24x zoom and is incredibly light, but on closer inspection the pictures lack zing and are quite noisy. The Canon SX10 IS I felt was a bit heavy, but it seemed to be taking nice photos! Very wierd. The chap in the shop is going to recharge one of the other Nikons so I can test that tomorrow, but I suspect the G10 may be the winner. Jessops have it for £414 but Amazon have it for £357… and PC World has it for £449.99. I can’t believe the price differences! And none of them seem to be offering anything different really – just the basic camera pack. So it’s back there tomorrow to test the other Nikon and probably to recheck the G10 for a couple of test shots I didn’t get and recheck the weight of the SX10. Then it’ll be decision-time…
